The singer and rapper Aaron Carter has died, aged 34.

The younger brother of the Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter was found at his home in Lancaster, California, on Saturday morning (5 November), TMZ reports.

Carter’s representatives confirmed his death in a statement: “Right now it’s a really bad time, we’re trying to figure out what happened and what the cause of it was.”

“We’re just as upset as everyone and hope that fans can give thoughts and prayers to his family.”

Carter had a son with Melanie Martin, who told TMZ: “My fiancé Aaron Carter has passed away. I love Aaron with all my heart and it’s going to be a journey to raise a son without a father.”

“Please respect the privacy of my family as we come to terms with the loss of someone we love greatly,” she added.

“We are still in the process of accepting this unfortunate reality. Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated.”

Carter came out as bisexual in 2017, detailing a romantic relationship he has with another man at the age of 17.

In 2018, he shared: “I see myself being with a woman and having kids. I want to have a family.”

Carter began his music career opening for his brother’s band, first releasing music when he was nine and going on to have two top 10 UK hits, ‘Crush On You’ and ‘Crazy Little Party Girl’.

He began releasing rap music later in his career and appeared on 2019’s Dancing With The Stars and performed in the Broadway production of Seussical.

Tributes to the late singer were led by his brother.

In an Instagram post, Nick shared: “Even though my brother and I have had a complicated relationship, my love for him has never ever faded.”

“I will miss my brother more than anyone will ever know,” he added. “Now you can finally have the peace you could never find here on earth….I love you baby brother.”

Other stars have also shared their condolences, including Hillary Duff, Paris Hilton, and the band *NSYNC.

The latter posted they were “saddened by the news of the sudden passing of Aaron Carter today” and that their “hearts go out to his family, friends and fans during this difficult time. Rest In Peace Aaron.”

Hilton shared she was “sad to hear about the news,” adding that “he was always kind to my family” and herself.

“He had a good heart. Gone way too soon,” she added, “Sending my thoughts and condolences to his loved ones and family. RIP.”
