Emmy-winning sitcom Schitt’s Creek is leaving Netflix UK in May 2026, with fans questioning where they’ll next be able to watch the queer cult classic.
The show, starring Eugene Levy, Daniel Levy, Annie Murphy and the late Catherine O’Hara, follows the formerly wealthy Rose family as they adjust to life without luxury after losing their fortune.
The series originally ran from 2015 to 2020 and spans 80 episodes across six seasons. It gained significant traction after debuting on Netflix in January 2017 and became a comforting must-watch during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Why is Schitt’s Creek leaving Netflix?
Currently scoring 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, it is not yet known why Schitt’s Creek is being removed from Netflix UK. Though, it is believed to be linked to HBO Max streaming the show in the US, as well as the launch of HBO Max UK earlier this year.
Schitt’s Creek remains available to stream via Amazon Prime and Apple TV for purchase.
Following the death of Catherine O’Hara in January this year, viewership for Schitt’s Creek increased significantly after the 71-year-old passed away following a “brief illness”.
What was Catherine O’Hara’s cause of death?
It was later revealed by BBC News that the immediate cause of death was due to a blood clot in her lungs, with rectal cancer serving as an ongoing concern.
The Canadian-American actor and comedian was one of the most distinctive screen performers of her generation, with a career spanning more than five decades across television, film and sketch comedy.
Beloved by the LGBTQ+ community, her flamboyant character, Moira Rose, became a cult figure in queer culture, often quoted for her iconic lines.
Levy, who plays her on-screen son, said to Attitude in light of O’Hara’s death, he’d been “very lucky” to have had the opportunity to work so closely alongside her.
