Miley Cyrus producer: She’s ‘as talented as Madonna’

One of the producers of Miley Cyrus’s surprise album And Her Dead Petz has reluctantly compared her to Madonna in a new interview.

Oren Yoel contributed to four songs on the 23-track surprise record, and was asked by Fader to comment on fellow hitmaker Mike WiLL’s suggestion that “Miley is the new Madonna”.

“Madonna is Madonna, and Miley is Miley,” he said. “I think in the sense of reinventing yourself and understanding your own brand, they’re very similar in that sense.

“What’s so great about Miley is that she has these great fans that will roll with her whatever she throws at them, I don’t think too many artists have fans like that and that’s incredible. So in a sense of her being able to change up her style and being as talented as Madonna, of course, [but] for me, I hate comparing different artists.

The album, which is free to stream on Soundcloud, has not been produced as part of the VMA host‘s multi-album deal with RCA Records, and they had no part in its production – but in a statement to New York Times they reaffirmed their support of her work.

“Miley Cyrus continues to be a groundbreaking artist,” they gushed. “She has a strong point of view regarding her art and expressed her desire to share this body of work with her fans directly. RCA Records is pleased to support Miley’s unique musical vision.”

Cyrus herself added that her management team “said they’d never seen someone at my level, especially a woman, have this much freedom. I literally can do whatever I want. It’s insane.”
