Wicked stars Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey to appear in West End musical set for 2027
The musical Sunday in the Park With George is expected to run at London’s Barbican Theatre in the summer of 2027

Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey are set to reunite on the West End stage in a 2027 revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park With George.
The Wicked co-stars posted a collaborative Instagram photo captioned: “All it has to be is good,” posing together in front of Seurat’s famous painting A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte.
The phrase is a lyric from Sondheim’s musical, which premiered on Broadway in 1984. The original run earned critical acclaim, including the Pulitzer Prize for Drama (1985) and the Tony Award for Best Scenic Design.
What is Sunday in the Park With George about?
The story follows artist George Seurat as he struggles to complete his masterpiece, isolating himself from his lover, Dot, in the process.
With Grande set to take a hiatus from pop music after her highly anticipated 2026 Eternal Sunshine tour – which she called her ‘one last hurrah for now’ in an Instagram post – the announcement means both stars will bring their acting talents to the West End.
Acclaimed director Marianne Elliott, a winner of both Tony and Olivier Awards, is set to lead the upcoming production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Pulitzer Prize-winning musical.
Elliott previously returned to Sondheim’s work with her highly praised West End and Broadway revival of Company in 2018, which starred Jonathan Bailey.
Where is Sunday in the Park With George set to run on the West End?
The musical Sunday in the Park With George is expected to run at London’s Barbican Theatre in the summer of 2027, ahead of the venue’s planned refurbishment in 2028.
Songs will include: ‘Sunday’, ‘Move On’, ‘Finishing the Hat’, ‘Color and Light’, and the iconic ‘Putting It Together’.
Grande and Bailey have become good friends since starring alongside each other as Galinda and Fiero in the 2024 Wicked film, starring Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba. The pair reprised their roles in 2025’s Wicked: For Good.
