Melissa Etheridge marries fiancée Linda Wallem

By Josh Haggis

Melissa Etheridge married her fiancée Linda Wallem in a ceremony in Montecito, California yesterday (May 31).

The couple began dating in 2010, and became engaged shortly after the US Supreme Court declared the Defense of Marriage Act – which allowed any US state to refuse to recognise same-sex marriages –  “unconstitutional” in June 2013.

Etheridge is a rock singer-songwriter and LGBT activist, and has won two Grammy Awards and an Oscar during her 25-year-long career. Wallem is best known for being the co-creator of hit Showtime series Nurse Jackie.

In a post on Twitter yesterday, Etheridge shared her excitement with her followers:

Guests at the wedding ceremony included Etheridge’s four children, plus celebrities including Jane Lynch, Chelsea Handler, Rosie O’Donnell, Peter Facinelli and Sia, the Daily Mail reports.
