More than 25,000 turned out to celebrate UK Black Pride over the weekend as it returned as an in-person event for the first time since 2019.

Festivities took place at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on Sunday 14 August themed around ‘Power’ in tribute of “the power our communities continue to wield to ensure that our communities are defended and supported, loved and protected,” according to UK Black Pride.

After the event, Newham mayor Rokhsana Fiaz OBE tweeted: “It’s official! @ukblackpride officially the largest Black Pride in the World” with more than 25,000 people attending, which was confirmed by UK Black Pride co-founder and CEO Lady Phyll in her closing speech. #”Power ✊🏾 to you all. 🖤🤎” Fiaz added.

Taking over Attitude’s Instagram account for the day, artist and creator Darkwah spoke to Heartstopper and recent Attitude Pride Icon Award winner Yasmin Finney, who was celebrating her first UK Black Pride.

“I feel really comfortable to be myself here and it feels great,” Yasmin said of the event.

Glow Up‘s Dolli Glam added that what she loves about the event is the sense of community.

“If I knew my life and just something like this would be available to me when I’m older I would definitely lead my life in a different pathway and learn more lessons than I did. So I just feel very blessed to be a part of this and a part of this community and unison,” she told Darkwah.

Friend of Attitude, photographer Francisco Gomez de Villaboa, was also on hand to document the event.

The Attitude September/October issue is out now.
