Tuc Watkins has attempted to clarify the controversial comments he made about Modern Family.

The former Desperate Housewives actor was criticised recently after he argued that Modern Family’s portrayal of gay characters was the “equivalent of blackface.”

Jesse Tyler Ferguson – who plays Mitch on the hit show – went on to defend the show’s gay characters, arguing that the comedy “can’t be expected to represent every gay person”. Find out more here.

Now, in a Facebook post made this week (December 29), Watkins has said that although his “blackface” comments were out of line, he still believes that “perpetuating a stereotype” can have a negative effect on the LGBT community.
