Watch first ever Bollywood music video for gay rights

The first ever Bollywood music video for gay rights has been unveiled as part of the United Nations’ LGBT equality campaign.

Bollywood actress and Miss India winner Celina Jaitly makes her singing debut in the video, which comes at a critical moment in India’s gay rights movement.

The video makes the point that everyone should be welcomed by their family, regardless of their sexuality. It is being promoted with the hashtag #TheWelcome.

The law banning same-sex relations in India was reinstated at the end of last year, and has resulted in nationwide protests and support for the LGBT community.

However, India’s Supreme Court officially recognised transgender people as a third gender for the first time earlier this month.
