Sir Elton John to receive France’s highest civilian honour while on farewell tour

The iconic singer will be awarded the Legion d'Honneur by President Emmanuel Macron

Sir Elton John is to be awarded France’s highest civilian honour during his farewell tour.

The iconic openly gay rock star is currently touring the world on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour and as he passed through Paris this week, French President Emmanuel Macron will present John with the Legion d’Honneur.

According to ChannelNews Asia, Macron’s office describe the signer as a ‘piano virtuoso, melodic genius and a true showman’.

They went on John was ‘one of the first gay artists to have the courage to say it and to give voice to the LGBT community in the media’.

John will be presented with the award during a ceremony at the Elysee Palace on Friday (June 21).

John’s life is currently being brought to life in the critically acclaimed Rocketman starring Taron Egerton, Richard Madden and Jamie Bell.
