Left-wing political commentator Hasan Piker reacted in real time as his underwear selfie was shown at the Republican Party’s midterm convention in Dallas.
The image appeared during a video played at the American Airlines Center yesterday (9 September), the first day of the two-day Republican National Committee event.
Piker was watching footage from the convention during a livestream when he spotted the photo, which had been taken from his Instagram, on the jumbotron.
“They posted the meat pic at the f*****g Trumpalooza!” – Hasan Piker on the Republican Party’s midterm convention in Dallas
“What the f***?” he said.
“Nooo!” Piker added, laughing. “They f*****g posted the meat pic! Nooo! Yo! They posted the meat pic at the f*****g Trumpalooza!”
The photo formed part of a longer video featuring attacks on Democrats and figures on the political left. The footage also included comments from Democratic strategist James Carville about Piker, clips from Black Lives Matter protests and footage of Donald Trump discussing communism.
Piker later responded to a post showing the image on X, writing: “They’re trying to make blexas happen!” referring to the possibility of Texas voting Democratic in November.
Why is Hasan Piker being targeted by the Republican Party?
Piker has become a target of Republican attacks in the run-up to the midterm elections. The political streamer has appeared with progressive Democratic candidates, including Texas state representative James Talarico, who is running for the Senate against Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton.
The RNC has previously referred to him as Democrats’ “America-hating spokesman”.
