Sam Smith wins big at Grammy Awards

By Nick Bond

The UK’s own Sam Smith was the big winner at last night’s 57th annual Grammy Awards, with the 22-year-old soul singer taking home four awards for his multi-million selling debut album, In The Lonely Hour.

And it seems Sam had a fun night rubbing shoulders with celeb pals too, as his Instagram was quickly filled with selfies with the likes of Rihanna and Taylor Swift.

Smith walked away with awards for Record and Song of the Year for his hit ballad Stay With Me, as well as Best New Artist and Pop Vocal Album.

“What is my life,” the newcomer captioned one of his snaps from the night.

While Sam was the night’s biggest winner, Pharrell Williams, Beyonce and country legend Roseanne Cash all took home three awards each.

Beck took home two, including the coveted best album prize – and nearly had a Taylor Swift moment when Kanye West rushed to the stage to interrupt him, but thought better of it at the last second.

Elsewhere on the night, this year’s Grammys were filled with performances from pop queens like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Beyonce and Rihanna, but all opted for surprisingly sedate songs. It was up to Madonna to lift the tempo with a spirited live recreation of the video to her new single, Living For Love.
