Lady Gaga teams up with Mark Ronson for fifth studio album

By Troy Nankervis

We all got pretty excited last week when Lady Gaga confirmed her fifth studio album will be arriving sometime in 2016, and no doubt the rumours and anticipation around what’s to follow Cheek to Cheek will build over the coming months.

But one thing, which just brought everything up a notch, is news that Mark Ronson, the man behind last year’s toe tapper ‘Uptown Funk’, is bringing his own catchy pop hooks to the fold, confirming he has been working with Gaga for material on the new album, reports The Evening Standard.

After Gaga was seen at the producer’s North London studio before Christmas, Ronson had said he would like to continue collaborating.

“We worked together in London,” the 40-year-old revealed. “I think she’s incredibly talented and kind of a muso at heart beyond all the giant pop hits,” he said.

“I would love to work some more with her – she’s an incredible singer-songwriter.”

Ronson’s praise will probably mean more to the ‘Bad Romance’ singer following Linda Perry’s controversial comments yesterday (January 19), in which she claimed Gaga doesn’t deserve her recent’Best Original Song’ Oscar nod for ‘Til It Happens to You’ because she only wrote “one line” of the Diane Warren co-penned number.

Meanewhile Ronson has picked up two nominations at next month’s Brit Awards, where he is a contender for ‘Best British Male Solo Artist’, and ‘Best Producer’.

“It’s amazing to be nominated, especially since we won best single last year [for Uptown Funk],” he said.

“Even if I don’t win anything at least it’s one more year of sitting at a free table!”

In the best British Male Solo Artist category, Ronson added it would be a tough competition, as the 40-year-old is up against Aphex Twin, Calvin Harris, Jamie XX and favourite James Bay, who are all vying for a gong.

“But I have no chance as it’s surely James Bay’s year. He has been the standout artist for me.”
