A replica of New York’s historic Stonewall Inn will take to the streets of London Pride this summer as part of a partnership between the venue and Brooklyn Brewery.
The installation, built on a converted bus, will recreate elements of the Greenwich Village bar where the 1969 Stonewall uprising began. The vehicle will join the Pride in London parade, serving as a mobile stage for DJs and performers while highlighting the venue’s role in LGBTQ+ history.
Located on Christopher Street in Manhattan, The Stonewall Inn became synonymous with the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement after patrons fought back against a police raid in the early hours of 28 June 1969.
“The Stonewall Inn isn’t just a bar, it marks the tipping point for the Pride movement” – Stacy Lentz, co-owner of The Stonewall Inn
The demonstrations continued for several nights and helped inspire a new generation of LGBTQ+ activism in the United States and beyond.
“The Stonewall Inn isn’t just a bar, it marks the tipping point for the Pride movement,” said Stacy Lentz, co-owner of The Stonewall Inn. “It represents the moment when a community pushed into the shadows decided to stand up, speak out and demand change. That energy is still what drives Pride today.”
At the time of the uprising, The Stonewall Inn was one of the few places in New York where LGBTQ+ people could gather and dance together. Police raids on gay bars were common and laws in force at the time were frequently used to target LGBTQ+ venues and their customers.
“In the early hours of 28th June, everything changed,” said co-owner Kurt Kelly. “What was meant to be another routine raid became something else entirely. People resisted. They stayed. They fought back. And over the next several nights, that resistance grew into something far bigger than anyone could have ever imagined.”
The Pride in London appearance forms part of a longstanding relationship between The Stonewall Inn and Brooklyn Brewery, which first began working with the venue in 2017.
The Stonewall Inn IPA was created to support The Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative
“What many people may not know, is that we approached Brooklyn Brewery, and not the other way around,” said Kelly. “In 2017, we asked them to create an official craft beer for the bar, and since then, Brooklyn Brewery’s The Stonewall Inn IPA has become a symbol of visibility and support, and now the official beer of Pride in London.”
To mark Pride 2026, Brooklyn Brewery has released limited-edition Stonewall Inn IPA packaging in collaboration with artist Rob Likes to Draw and the Queer Youth Art Collective. The design features hand-drawn illustrations inspired by the original venue’s brick façade and will remain on sale in the UK until 31 August.
The Stonewall Inn IPA, an American-style IPA brewed at 4.3% ABV, was created to support The Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative, a non-profit organisation that funds LGBTQ+ community projects and advocacy work.
