Swifties are praising their leader for casting trans model and actor, Laith Ashley, in a Midnights music video.

In a short teaser for the album’s music videos, there’s a glimpse of the ‘Lavender Haze’ singer in bed with Laith.

In the video, Taylor reaches over to touch Laith’s back, which appears to light up in rainbow colours as she does.

As such, fans already in love with Taylor fell in love yet further after this casting.

One person wrote that if people were discovering Laith because of Taylor that was “so cool”.

They added: “Trans guys definitely deserve more representation. Didn’t think I could love Taylor more but here we are.”

Someone else typed: “if Laith Ashley, activist and openly trans model, plays taylor’s love interest i will die FINALLY A WIN FOR SEXY PEOPLE!!!!!!!!”

Another person wrote that most trans men they know are Swifties. They also say it’s “incredible” to see Laith a part of Taylor’s universe, “appearing to be a character of Taylor’s desire no less.”

Adding, “A big moment for representation in many ways.”

Another person wrote that “We have to talk about how it appears that Laith Ashley is Taylor Swift’s love interest.”

Well, the good news is we are!

On Friday (21 October) Laith tweeted: “It’s me, hi. I’m the problem it’s me,” along with the hashtag for the album.

As well as this, he used #antihero, indicating that’s the video he’ll be appearing in.

The release of Midnights has been met with widespread acclaim and love.

Leading the way, Rolling Stone called it a return to “the dazzling synth-pop of records like 1989 and Reputation, with lyrics caught between a love story and a revenge plot”.

Similarly, NME’s review describes this as Taylor “at her most candid” and that she “shimmers” as she returns to “pure pop”.

Likewise, The Guardian picked out the “confident songwriting and understated synth-pop”.

Back in August when she announced the album in August Taylor explained the songs are “the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life”.

Midnights is available to stream now.
