Mass trans lobby to challenge EHRC guidance at UK Parliament
An expected 1,000 people will gather, united by the view that the EHRC’s guidance is “cruel and unworkable”

Trans+ Solidarity Alliance has organised a mass lobby at the UK Parliament to challenge the EHRC’s final guidance on single-sex spaces following the April 2025 UK Supreme Court ruling.
Nearly 1,000 trans people and allies are expected to gather at the Houses of Parliament in Westminster, London, on Wednesday 9 September from 1pm to 5pm.
The policy came into force on 5 August, following the April 2025 UK Supreme Court ruling which determined that the legal definition of “woman” under the Equality Act refers to biological sex.
The effects of the EHRC’s final guidance on trans people
Its definitive version restricts trans people from using facilities that align with their gender identity, with campaigners arguing that it treats trans people as a “third gender”.
It is worth noting that the final code of practice is not law; it is statutory guidance setting out how service providers should apply the ruling in practice.
However, with an increasing number of organisations changing their policies to comply with the EHRC guidance, including the Co-operative Group, Lloyds Banking Group and Barclays, all of which bar trans women from using women’s bathrooms, campaigners are calling for action.
Trans+ Solidarity Alliance organises mass lobby
It was reported in June 2026 that more than 15,000 people had written to their MPs condemning the policy, and Trans+ Solidarity Alliance is taking the extra step to make sure their voices are heard.
Director Alexandra Parmar-Yee argues that the government is trying to make the issue “go away” and says campaigners must continue to show up and demand change.
“By running away from their duty to fix the UK’s broken equality law, the government has created a legal minefield which puts communal spaces and services all over the country at risk of being sued. More importantly, they’ve created an environment where trans people are less safe living our everyday lives,” they said in a news release.

“Trans people cannot simply evaporate, we have no choice but to navigate the dangerous environment the Government has created.
“They want us to go quietly. Now, more than ever, we need to show up and demand better,” said Parmar-Yee.
As part of the mass lobby, those who register via the official Trans+ Solidarity Alliance website will enter Parliament as visitors and have the opportunity to speak with their MP about the issue.
The lobby itself will take place in Westminster Hall, with a visual stunt in Parliament Square, where participants will leave messages in a giant farewell card about the UK’s reputation on LGBTQ+ rights.
