Miles Heizer has spoken out after it was announced that queer marine series Boots would not be renewed on Netflix for a second season, leaving him “disappointed”.

The announcement from Deadline comes just over two months after the eight-part series launched on Netflix in October 2025, starring the likes of former Attitude cover star Heizer, Max Parker and others.

Heizer, who played Cameron Cope, a closeted gay teenager in the early 1990s who joined the US Marines at a time when being gay in the military was illegal, addressed the cancellation in an Instagram post yesterday (16 November).

“I’m sad to report that Boots isn’t being renewed for a second season” – Miles Heizer announcing the cancellation of Boots series two on Netflix

“Well, I’m sad to report that Boots isn’t being renewed for a second season,” Heizer wrote. “I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming love and support they gave this show. It truly shattered my expectations, and I couldn’t be more grateful.”

He went on to thank series writer Greg Cope White for his queer storytelling and for entrusting the cast to bring it to life, as well as paying tribute to veterans.

“Thank you to the LGBTQ+ community that came before me, who fought for a world where a show like this could get made,” he said. “I grew up so afraid of what being gay would mean for my life. So to be on the other side of that, feeling so uplifted and supported, is still insane to me.”

“I’m pretty disappointed we won’t be returning” – Heizer on the Boots series two announcement

“I’m pretty disappointed we won’t be returning,” he added, though he said he would cherish the friendships formed through the series.

Heizer also addressed criticism from the US Pentagon, which described the 2025 series as “woke garbage”. Comments he said he would “cherish for the rest of my life”.

“Thank you so much to everyone who fought to get this show made,” he concluded, adding that it was a “privilege” and that he is “eternally grateful” for the experience.

“I felt connected to these boys” – Heizer and his friendships with the Boots cast

Heizer spoke exclusively to Attitude about his identity as a gay man, revealing that filming Boots broadened his friendships and knowledge of the gay community.

“They weren’t familiar with gay culture, hadn’t met a lot of gay people. For us to come together and create these deep friendships was interesting. I felt connected to these boys. We still talk all the time,” he said.

He concluded his online statement writing: “Ok… goodbye for now.”
