Harry Styles has been praised after helping a fan come out during his Madison Square Garden residency.
The singer was performing in New York City on Saturday (10 October) when he took a transgender pride flag from a fan and used it as part of an interaction with the crowd.
In the clip, Styles explained the rules, saying: “Basically, if this flag is below my shoulders, you’re still here. All the way straight down. But when it’s above my shoulders, you’re pretty gay.”
“Well, New York, are you ready to celebrate Jane’s coming out?” – Harry Styles at Madison Square Garden
Styles then built anticipation among the audience before raising the flag, prompting cheers from the crowd. At one point, he asked: “Well, New York, are you ready to celebrate Jane’s coming out?”
The moment took place during the 21st night of Styles’ Together, Together residency at Madison Square Garden, which began in August.

When has Harry Styles helped fans come out before?
In 2022, Styles similarly helped a fan come out during a show at Wembley Stadium with a pride flag.
He told them: “When this flag goes above my head, you are officially out,” subsequently raising the flag to cheers from the audience, declaring: “Congratulations Mattia, you are a free man.”
Video footage captured during a Milwaukee stop of the same Love on Tour showed the former One Direction-er interacting with a fan near the stage holding a bedazzled sign reading: “My mom is in Section 201. Help me come out??”
After locating the fan’s mum on the other side of the stadium Harry ran back to his fan and asks her: “Do you want to tell her or should I tell her?” before saying he was happy to relay the important news.
Running back to the mother’s side of the stage Harry says: “Lisa… She’s gay!” to rapturous applause from the audience, while the mother (now displayed on a giant screen) could be seen crying with happiness.
