Fra Fee has made a bid to take over from Jonathan Bailey in the London West End production of Sunday in the Park with George alongside Ariana Grande.

Speaking exclusively to Attitude in his March/April 2026 cover interview, Fee spoke fondly about studying the playwright Stephen Sondheim at the University of Manchester.

He described “discovering Sondheim in a big way” during his formative years, which later led to him starring in several of his classic plays.

From Follies at the Opéra de Toulon, to A Little Night Music in Guildford and the West End, and Putting It Together in Belfast, Fee’s career has honoured his work.

It was announced earlier this year that Wicked co-stars Grande and Bailey are set to reunite on the West End stage in a 2027 revival of Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George.

“Oh, my goodness, Sunday in the Park with George. I mean, Jonny Bailey is going to be unbelievable,” said Fee.

“That’s a big role I’d love to play. Maybe if it’s a huge success, I’ll take over from him. There you go, you heard it here first.”

Acclaimed director Marianne Elliott, a winner of both Tony and Olivier Awards, is set to lead the production.

The musical Sunday in the Park With George is expected to run at London’s Barbican Theatre in the summer of 2027, ahead of the venue’s planned refurbishment in 2028.

“Jonathan shows us that queer leading-man energy and box office success are not opposite” – Fee praising Bailey as an openly gay man working in Hollywood

@attitudemag Watch as our latest cover star and leader of the Film, TV + Music category, Fra Fee, addresses this year's #Attitude101, empowered by @bentleymotors, where the actor talks on the legacy that allowed LGBTQ+ shows like Heated Rivalry to exist #heatedrivalry ♬ original sound – Attitude Magazine

This is not the first time Fra Fee has praised Bailey. Previously speaking at the Attitude 101 charity lunch in February this year, the former Attitude cover star honoured the actor following the release of Wicked: For Good.

“Jonathan Bailey being the highest-grossing actor in Hollywood in 2025 is not at all lost on me,” he said. “It is genuinely such a big, big deal.”

“We have to be super, super proud. Jonathan shows us that queer leading-man energy and box office success are not opposites.”

“It appears as though we got there. We made it. Our stories are being told, our voices are being heard,” Fee added.

What is Fra Fee doing now?

Fra Fee’s career spans stage and screen, most recently starring in the April Netflix release Unchosen, a six-part series about a religious cult.

Fra Fee plays Sam, an escaped convict who disrupts a conservative group. Starring alongside actress Molly Windsor, who plays Rosie, a cult member living within a strict commune, the series follows how her life changes after meeting Sam.

Unchosen is available to stream now on Netflix.
