Lady Gaga joined Lisa Kudrow for a surprise performance of ‘Smelly Cat’ at last night’s Friends: The Reunion special on HBO Max.

The ‘Rain On Me’ singer even donned an eccentric, 90s-esque Phoebe Buffay-inspired outfit for the occasion.

(Although to be fair, the outfit isn’t a million miles away from something she’d wear normally!)

“It’s one of my favourite songs”

“I love ‘Smelly Cat’, it’s one of my favourite songs,” Gaga tells Lisa during the sketch, after bumping into her at Central Perk. “Shall we take it for a spin?”

“That’ll be great!” replies Lisa.

Gaga then offers a rocky, full-volume rendition of Phoebe’s signature song, before Lisa joins in. By the scene’s end, the pair are joined by a six-person choir.

Some pop culture trivia: ‘Smelly Cat’ first appears in season two, episode six of Friends. This was in 1995 – when Gaga was nine years old!

Lisa was joined by former castmates Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry, Courteney Cox and Jennifer Aniston for last night’s broadcast. Other guest stars on the show included David Beckham, Cara Delevingne, Justin Bieber and Reese Witherspoon.

The special follows this week’s resurfaced news that, according to a Friends tie-in book, the character of Joey was once described as gay in an original script.
