This mash-up of Cher’s ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!’ and Madonna’s ‘Hung Up’ will give you your gay life

The musical icons find themselves united by the wonder of ABBA.

By Will Stroude

When Cher announced that her cover of ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)’ would be the first single from her forthcoming album of ABBA covers, approriately entiteld Dancing Queen, it was only a matter of time before it got given the mash-up treatment with a Madonna classic that famously sampled the band’s original track.

Luckily, it only took the gays a matter of hours to come up with the good, with DJ Alex Simpson remixing Cher’s ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!’ and Madonna’s ‘Hung Up’ to create the gay mega-hit we never knew we needed (and now can’t live without).

‘Hung Up’, which featured on Madonna’s disco-infused 2005 album Confessions, helped propel the Queen of Pop back to commercial greatness after the relative disappointment of 203 American Life album.

Madonna personally sought permission from ABBA’s songwriters Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus to use ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!’ famous hook, and it seems the ABBA boys have plenty of respect of their fellow musical icons after agreeing to let Cher cover 10 of thje band’s classic for Dancing Queen, which is set for release on September 28 off the back of the ‘Belive’ singe’rs appearance in Mamma Mia! here We Go Again.
