Superman artists given police protection after ‘threats’ over bisexual storyline

The DC Comics illustrators and writers behind Superman’s son coming out as bisexual have been given police protection after threats, it has been claimed.
Jonathan Kent revealed his sexuality in the issue Superman: Son of Kal-EL #5 last month.
The storyline led to global praise – and global backlash from homophobes, who have apparently inundated DC headquarters with complaints.

‘The extra protection comes after major backlash that included some so-called fans making threats’, TMZ reports after speaking to sources.
According to the publication, the DC staff involved in LA requested the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) patrol their homes and offices after the threats.
The situation is now said to have died down.
Writer Tom Taylor enthused of Jon Kent a press release last month: “I’ve always said everyone needs heroes and everyone deserves to see themselves in their heroes and I’m very grateful DC and Warner Bros. share this idea.
“Superman’s symbol has always stood for hope, for truth and for justice. Today, that symbol represents something more. Today, more people can see themselves in the most powerful superhero in comics.”
Among those to speak out against the storyline were Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman actor Dean Cain and British TV personality Christopher Biggins.
