Sam Smith has admitted he will “never make “happy music”.

Just weeks after confirming his relationship with 13 Reasons Why star Brandon Flynn, the ‘Too Good At Goodbyes’ singer claimed he was “unlucky’ in love as he made an appearance on the Today Show in Australia to promote his 2017 album The Thrill of It All.

During the interview, Smith admitted that the album was filled with love songs as a reflection of past relationships.

He said: “I haven’t been the luckiest in my love life but hopefully things will be better now.

Despite stating he’s now happy with boyfriend Brandon Flynn, Smith later said he’ll “never make happy music”.

Smith was also asked how he felt about the marriage equality vote in Australia, to which he responded: “I was just staring at my phone crying when it happened. It’s such amazing news and a beautiful way to kick off the new year.”

The ‘Stay With Me’ singer was spotted kissing Flynn in public two weeks before gushing about the star on The Ellen Show in October last year.

Soon after, the singer opened up to V Magazine about the relationship and said it was the first time he felt he “deserved to be happy.”
