Modern Family makes history as it casts ‘TV’s first transgender child actor’

By Will Stroude

This week’s episode of Modern Family will star an openly trans child actor, according to E! Online.

In the episode, which airs in America this Wednesday (September 28), Lily, daughter of Cam (Eric Stone) and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) invites her trans friend Tom over for a play date.

While Cam and Mitchell are initially pleased to see their daughter take on such an open-minded attitude, but are quickly disappointed when they hear her insult their new friend – and use the moment to teach Lily a thing or two about acceptance.

Tom is played by 8-year-old actor Jackson Millarker.

Thee episode’s director, Ryan Case, took to Instagram to introduce him to the world with a selfie of the pair, captioned: “This is Jackson Millarker. He’s 8 years old, from Atlanta, and just happens to be transgender. He plays Lily’s friend Tom in this week’s Modern Family and he’s wonderful. One of the many reasons I love being a part of this show.”

The episode, entitled A Stereotypical Day, will air in America tomorrow (September 28) on ABC.
