Lady Gaga’s ‘Perfect Illusion’ video is here – WATCH

By Will Stroude

Lady Gaga’s video for brand new single ‘Perfect Illusion’ has finally landed. And boy is it a departure.

Gone are the batty costumes, the unique pageantry and the outlandish storylines. Mother Monster is dead: long live Mother Mosher.

The video sees Gaga rocking out in the desert in the same croptop/underboob/daisy dukes combo that she debuted during her secret gig last week in London’s Moth Club.

She’s soon joined by screaming crowds as the thumping breakup power anthem drives home the overly-enunciated to acutely relatable message: “IT WASN’T LAHVE! IT WAS A PAH-FECT ILOOSHAN!”

Throw in a bit of microphone twirling and an appearance from producer and collaborator Mark Ronson, and you’ve got yourself a Gaga video that is at once completely her and like nothing live we’ve seen from the singer before.

The 30-year-old superstar already teased that her new work won’t resemble the high-concept output we’ve seen from her before; but just how far she’s willing to stray from the beaten track of Alexander McQueen insect shoes, mass murder featuring Beyoncé, and heads stuck on swans is a little hard to judge off the back of one music video.

We’ll just have to wait until the album drops exactly one month today to see what this new Joanne era is really about.
