Lady Gaga delivers stunning National Anthem rendition at the Superbowl

By Troy Nankervis

Lady Gaga really delivered on the vocal chops at yesterday’s Superbowl 50 where she belted out the US National Anthem before 100 million viewers across the world.

Dressed in a sparkling red Gucci suit, coupled with American-flag styled shoes, the 29-year-old held a silver microphone as she sang ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ ahead of the match, and was joined by actress Marlee Matlin, who signed the performance for the deaf community.

“I’ve always wanted to sing the National Anthem at a major sporting event since I was a little girl, and for it to be the Super Bowl, it is the ultimate,” Gaga told NFL.com.

Before she took to the stage, the Oscar nominee said she had spent time watched Super Bowl performances of Christina Aguilera and the late Whitney Houston.

“When I was little, I used to stand at the top of my staircase and sing along with her [Whitney’s] version,” she said.

“At home, the more I would sing it, the more my dad would say, ‘you’re getting pretty good, kid.’ So to be here now and to sing it to America, it’s just wonderful.”

Some fans across social media compared Gaga’s outfit to Elizabeth Banks’ Effie Trinket from The Hunger Games.

While The American Horror Story: Hotel star didn’t step on stage for the half-time entertainment, Beyonce, Coldplay and Bruno Mars all kept a handle on things.

And as for the match itself, the Denver Broncos defeated the Carolina Panthers 24-10.
