Jane Krakowski is to star in a US remake of acclaimed BBC3 sitcom Dead Boss.

The British original, which aired for six episodes in 2012, starred Sharon Horgan as an overachiever called Helen Stephens who is wrongfully convicted of murder and sent to a women’s prison run by Jennifer Saunders’ Governor Margaret.

In the US adaptation Krakowski, known for her roles in 30 Rock and Ally McBeal, will take on the role of Helen Stephens, who is forced to rely on her emotionally unstable sister to prove her innocence.

Horgan, who co-created the original Dead Boss with Holly Walsh, will serve as an executive producer on the remake.

The pilot episode of the remake will be filmed in New York, where Krakowski is based, Deadline reports, and US network Fox will then decide whether to order a full season.

Krakowski, 45, played insecure actress Jenna Maroney on Tina Fey’s 30 Rock from 2006 to 2013 and recently made a guest appearance on Modern Family.
