Beyoncé steals the show during Superbowl 50 half-time performance

Beyoncé continued to demonstrate why she’s one of the best live performers in the world during last night’s Superbowl 50 half-time show, easily stealing the spotlight from headliners Coldplay as she joined them onstage at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

The British rock band kicked off their colourful 13-minute performance with a medley of their greatest hits before being joined by Queen Bey, who performed brand new single ‘Formation’ live for the first time after its surprise release on Saturday (February 6).

Another former Superbowl headliner son joined proceedings in the form of Bruno Mars, who performed ‘Uptown Funk’ before joining Coldplay and Beyoncé for a rousing rendition of Chris Martin & co’s new single ‘Up & Up’.

The night was all about Beyoncé though, who immediately had Twitter abuzz with an incredibly choreographed routine, as the political themes of ‘Formation’s music video spilled into the living rooms of over 100 million Americans: Flanked by back-up dancer dressed like radical ‘black power’ political group the Black Panthers, the troupe also formed an ‘X ‘during the performance – seen as a reference to American Muslim minister human rights activist Malcolm X, who was assassinated in 1965

There was also a slight hair-raising moment when the former Destiny’s Child singer appeared to stumble mid-routine – but like a true professional, managed to regain her footing in style.

The 34-year-old followed the appearance with the announcement of her brand new ‘Formation World Tour – with five UK dates announced for the end of June and start of July in Sunderland, Glasgow, Manchester and London.

While Bey might have hogged the headlines, Coldplay were still in good spirits following the performance, thanking their guest stars and paying tribute to an incredible evening’s entertainment.
