Ashley ‘Dotty’ Charles can’t wait to turn up the volume once again after landing a lucrative new role.

The former BBC Radio 1Xtra presenter will cut to the core of matters as the lead cultural curator, black music, UK and Apple Music host in September.

“This really is my dream job. I started in this business as an artist myself so to be taking on a role that allows me to empower musicians is incredible. And to do all of that while continuing to do what I love on the radio is huge,” she said in a statement.

“Apple are the biggest company in the world, so to play a part in curating their musical output is something I’m incredibly excited about. I can’t wait to get started at my new home… time for another unforgettable chapter.”

Last month, Dotty, 32, surprised fans when she faded the mic and quit her BBC job of six years.

In an interview in the Attitude August issue – out now to download and to order globally – the former rapper, aka Amplify Dot, spoke about her debut book, ‘Outraged: Why Everyone is Shouting and No One is Talking.’

Dotty, who lives in London with wife Lina and their son Camden, argues that the power of ‘outrage’ has become increasingly devalued in the era of social media.

“I’ve got so many reasons to be outraged: I’m black, I’m gay, I’m a woman. If I reacted to everything that was offensive to any three sides of my identity, I would be in a perpetual state of rage.

“It was important for me, for people who look like me and live like me, but also people from other communities to understand that we need to be more responsible with our outrage. It can be so powerful if we’re responding to things in the right ways,” she explains.
