Alan Cumming has revealed that he doesn’t feel the need to have children of his own.

The Good Wife actor is married to graphic artist Grant Shaffer, and has previously spoken of his wish to adopt a child.

Speaking to Attitude about whether he would like to start a family, he said: “I did used to want to, but not anymore.

“My novel Tommy’s Tale, which was republished this summer, was very much about me wanting to have a child, what it meant, how you could do it as a single man, as a gay man – all these different hurdles against you.

“I always thought it was going to happen, but now I’ve actually realised that even though I’m in a great relationship, we just don’t want to. There are a lot of kids in my life, but we’re content without having our own.”

The actor recently explored his family history, in particular the story of his mysterious grandfather, for new book My Father’s Son. The book is out now.

Earlier this year, Cumming was due to perform alongside Liza Minnelli at a special Cabaret concert, but the actress and singer was forced to pull out due to health issues – read more here.
