A week til the Attitude Awards! 5 reasons we love host Ana Matronic

By Nick Bond

It’s just one week until the 2015 Attitude Awards, presented in association with Virgin Holidays and held for one lavish night at the gorgeous Banqueting House in London next Wednesday October 14.

Of course, when it came to enlisting a host for the evening, we could look no further than last year’s Mistress of Ceremonies, the incredible Ms Ana Matronic. That’s right, the Scissor Sisters’ resident flame-haired diva is back for her second helping at the Attitude Awards, and she’ll be on hand to keep the show moving (and deliver more than a few sassy one-liners in the process, we’re sure).

There’s been a lot to love about Ana since the Scissor Sisters burst out of New York’s queer performance scene back in 2004 and quickly became one of the biggest bands in the world. Let us count the ways:

1. She once impersonated a Bird of Paradise – FOR SIR DAVID ATTENBOROUGH.

Like a boss.

2. Because sure, Jake was the vocal belter of the Scissor Sisters – but Ana stole the show in perhaps their most iconic song, Let’s Have A Kiki:

You KNOW you’ve mimed that opening monologue before. “So I get to the club, lookin’ like a drowned, harassed rat…”

3. She sang lead on one of Scissor Sisters’ most underrated singles, the Call Me-meets-Knock On Wood disco stomper Kiss You Off:

4. Because she’s spreading her wings while the Scissor Sisters take a break:

As the group take a well-earned rest to pursue solo ventures after a decade touring the world, Ana’s diversified into all sorts of areas: Guesting on songs with the likes of Bright Light Bright Light (see above), working as a radio host for BBC Radio 2, an advisor on The Voice for BBC 1 and Eurovision commentator. She even released first book, Robot Takeover, last month!

5. Finally, for this gif:

Could watch this on a loop forever, tbh.

See you at the Kiki – we mean Attitude Awards – Ana! In the meantime, let’s look back at some of the highlights from last year’s event:
