Lorde responded in no-nonsense fashion earlier today (March 10) when a radio DJ attempted a series of lesbian “jokes” about her and Taylor Swift.

The Royals singer has become friends with Swift in recent months, something which DJ Kyle Sandilands tried to make light of during his breakfast show interview with Lorde on Australia’s KIIS 1065 radio station this morning.

While chatting about Lorde’s gig in New York tonight (March 10), Sandilands asked the 17-year-old New Zealander: “Are you bringing your new bestie, Taylor Swift? I see you guys’ pictures everywhere. Are you guys, like, are you together now?”

Greeted by an uncomfortable silence from Lorde, the DJ then prompted: “Not together as in lesbians… I’m not talking about ‘Ellen together’. I’m talking about, like, you guys are friendly, right?”

Lorde replied:  “What do you mean you’re not talking about ‘Ellen together’? Is there something wrong with lesbians? Is that what you’re trying to say?”

Sandilands then said: “Oh my God, no, I would love that. Are you going to confirm now that you’re in a lesbian relationship with her?”.

Lorde responded curtly: “Don’t ever try it. It’s not working.”

Lorde, real name Ella Yellich-O’Connor, performed a mash-up of Royals and White Noise with Disclosure and AlunaGeorge at the BRIT Awards in London last month (February) and begins her US tour in New York tonight (March 10).
