A new charity T-shirt campaign featuring photography by Rankin has launched to raise funds for beagles rescued from animal testing laboratories.
Called ‘God Save The Beagles’, the campaign was created by musician, artist and actor Collette Cooper and actor, artist and musician Lois Winstone, with the T-shirt designed and cut by British tailor Gresham Blake.
Blake is known for his work with celebrities including Nick Cave, Jimmy Page, Ray Winstone, Fatboy Slim and Steve Coogan.

The campaign has been photographed by Rankin, whose subjects have included David Bowie, Kate Moss, The Rolling Stones and King Charles III.

According to figures included in the campaign’s press materials, 2,646 experimental procedures involving dogs were carried out in Great Britain in 2024, involving 1,651 dogs.
The campaign also cites a figure of 95 per cent for the proportion of dogs used in scientific procedures that are beagles, a statistic referenced during a House of Commons debate in April 2025.

Beagle Freedom Project UK says it works to give former laboratory animals the opportunity to be rehabilitated and placed into homes. The campaign highlights seven beagles brought from a testing facility in Spain into foster care in Kent in 2023, with the charity stating that some had never experienced grass before.
The slogan ‘God Save The Beagles’ takes inspiration from British punk culture, referencing the visual language associated with Jamie Reid’s artwork for the Sex Pistols’ 1977 single God Save The Queen.
Cooper previously collaborated with Blake on the “Collette suit”, which was worn by celebrities including Iris Law and Laura Whitmore.

Cooper is also known for her work as a musician and actor, having played Janis Joplin in the Off West End production Tomorrow May Be My Last. Winstone has appeared in The Bill, Last Orders, Beyond The Rave and Game of Thrones, and fronts rock band Lois & The Love.
The campaign launched at an event in London yesterday (17 September), with the T-shirts available to purchase through Gresham Blake.
