Sister Sledge join Brighton Pride 2016 line-up

By Will Stroude

Legendary disco divas Sister Sledge are set to perform at this year’s Brighton Pride festival.

The Grammy-nominated group will play at the UK’s biggest Pride festival in Preston Park on Saturday, August 6, during a day of incredible live performances from the likes of Fleur East, Alesha Dixon, DJ Fresh, and international superstar Carly Rae Jepsen.

Pride-goers will be able to see sisters Debbie, Joni and Kim get the party going as they belt of some of their most iconic disco hits, including ‘We Are Family’, ‘He’s The Greatest Dancer’ and ‘Lost in Music’, with a full live band in tow.

Organisers have promised plenty more announcements to come over the next few weeks as the Pride approaches, and tickets to see Sister Sledge, Carly, Alesha and the rest this year’s festival are already available at brighton-pride.org/tickets.

With over 290,000 people participating in last year’s event, Brighton Pride 2016 looks set to be bigger and better than ever before, with the Pride Community Parade set to host its own ‘Carnival Of Diversity’, with a campaigning theme of ‘Uniting Nations’ to reflect Pride’s on-going commitment to global LGBT+ rights.

“Pride has evolved over the years with more communities coming together to celebrate every aspect of our city, regardless of sexuality, race, gender, age or ability,” says a festival spokesperson.

“It’s important not to go back to themes that trivialise the important message behind the Pride Celebration and to highlight the lives and struggles of LGBT+ people across the world as we strive for equality for all.”

Tickets for Brighton Pride 2016 (August 5-7) are now available here. For more information visit brighton-pride.org.
