Revellers heading to Glastonbury this week (June 25-29) will once again have the chance to experience 24 hour gay clubbing at the festival’s Block9 area.

The radical set design duo are returning to the Worthy Farm Festival to host another cinematic spectacle, with late-night entertainment featuring underground nightclubs, bars, interactive art installations and alternative performances.

Block9’s gay epicenter will once again be the NYC Downlow stage, which was created for Glastonbury in 2007 as a venue for gay festival-goers. The film-set replica of a ruined New York City apartment building will host 24-hour DJ sets, as well as performances from the UK’s finest alternative cabaret stars.

The venue will also host a tribute for late house music pioneer Frankie Knuckles, who died unexpectedly at his home in Chicago earlier this year (March) from diabetes-related complications. Grammy award-winning DJ and producer David Morales will play a special set at the ‘underground gay nightclub’ in honour of the DJ from 9pm-11pm on Thursday (June 26).

As well as the planned tribute, NYC Downlow will feature sets from DJ Die, Danny Krivit (Body & Soul, NYC), Horse Meat Disco and My Love Is Underground.

Block9 are also promising exciting surprise performers over the course of the weekend, as well as a planned Dolly Parton tribute, which will see more than 50 drag performers dressed as Dolly descend on the area following the country legend’s Sunday set.

The stage’s opening party kicks off on Thursday (June 26) at 8pm. Festival-goers can purchase a false moustache – with proceeds going to charity – before making their way into Glastonbury’s answer to a vintage New York gay club.
