Wentworth Miller has an important message for anyone living with depression

By Will Stroude

Wentworth Miller has released a powerful new video to coincide with America’s National Suicide Prevention Week.

The 44-year-old actor, who previously came out as gay in response to Russia’s anti-LGBT stance in the lead up to the 2013 Sochi Winter Games, has been a vocal advocate for mental health in the past, having opened up about living with depression earlier this year. And now, he’s offering his support to all those affected by depression and suicidal thoughts.

Posted through The Mighty, an online community aimed at people “facing disability and mental illness together,”  the video shows the inner thoughts of various people living with depression.

Miller then appears to explain that depression affects “350 million people worldwide.

“Someone cares, and they’re waiting to hear from you,” he says, before imploring viewers to not “be afraid to take the first step”, before encouraging finding a local support group.

He also directs people to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, reassuring viewers that “there is hope”.
