Watch: Kim Davis strides out of prison to Survivor’s ‘Eye of the Tiger’

By Will Stroude

The ongoing Kim Davis saga has reached mind-meltingly ridiculous new heights, after the Kentucky County Clerk strode out of jail yesterday to the sound of rapturous applause and Survivor’s Eye of the Tiger.

A judge released fundamentalist Christianity’s new pin-up girl from jail after six nights on the condition that she does not stop her deputies from issuing marriage licenses to gay couples, the BBC reports.

A tearful Davis, who was locked up after violating a federal court order compelling her not to discriminate when issuing marriage licenses, took to the stage following her release to the tune of Survivor’s empowering 1982 classic, before thanking the crowd of Bible-bashing supporters and – you guessed it – the big man upstairs.

“I just want to give God the glory”, she said. “His people have rallied and you are a strong people. We serve a living God who knows exactly where each and every one of us is at.

“Just keep on pressing. Don’t let down. Because he is here; he is worthy; he’s worthy. I love you guys. Thank you so much.”

Federal Judge David Bunning said Davis – who will return to work in Rowan County later this week but insists she will not “violate her conscience” – could be jailed again if she continues to defy the court, however. We’re not holding our breathe, to be honest.

Meanwhile, one person who wasn’t so thrilled with Davis’ choice of backing music was Survivor’s Frankie Sullivan, who took to Facebook to reassure fans that he had not granted permission for the song to be used at the rally, which was also attended by Republican presidential hopefuls Mike Huckabee and Ted Cruz.

“NO! We did not grant Kim Davis any rights to use” the song, Sullivan said on the band’s official page. “I would not grant her the rights to use Charmin! C’mom Mike, you are not The Donald but you can do better than that … See Ya really SoooooooonnnnnnN!!!!!!”

Survivor previously sued 2012 Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich for using the same song without permission at one of his rallies, so we wouldn’t be surprised if Ms Davis has another legal wrangle on her hands soon enough.

Twitter, of course, reacted in predictably brilliant fashion thought, with a string of memes poking fun at Davis’ fabulously overblown righteousness.
