Vito Cammisano shares his coming out story in new vlog

By Micah Sulit

On his shiny new YouTube vlog, Michael Sam’s fiancé Vito Cammisano has published a video in which he shares his coming out story.

“I learned that coming out is a lifelong process,” Cammisano says in the clip. “I’m going to be put in situations where I might have to choose to come out on a daily basis.”

In the eight-minute video – which is only the first part of Cammisano’s vlog series on coming out – Cammisano recalls how he struggled with his sexuality throughout his childhood, having grown up in a “very, very Italian Catholic family”.

He also recounts the night he came out to his best friend and the counselling sessions he had in college to help him deal with anxiety and fear.

Cammisano describes seeing a counsellor as life-changing.

“It helped me finally realise that, ‘What’s wrong with being me? This is who I was born as,’” Cammisano says. “And I’m a lot more fabulous being the Vito I’ve been hiding.”

Cammisano’s latest vlog comes in the wake of rumours that he and Sam called it quits at the end of June, just six months after getting engaged.
