Max George has spoken out about the The Wanted’s forthcoming split.

The boyband’s five members announced earlier this week (January 22) that they will go their separate ways after they complete their Word of Mouth tour, which starts in March.

In a new interview with The Sun, George recalled: “Over the past year there has been a lot of tension. Our personal lives drove us apart. Things started to happen and we were drifting. We used to be such a brotherly pact, but it started to feel like it wasn’t The Wanted any more.”

During the interview, George also revealed that he and bandmate Nathan Sykes are already contemplating solo careers. “Our manager Scooter Braun asked us who would want to take a step out after the tour and try to do their own thing. Me and Nathan both said we have other ambitions,” he explained. “We were more prepared than the others because we’d looked at how things had been going with the band over the past few months.”

The group were dropped by record label Universal in December 2013 after poor record sales of their third album Word Of Mouth.

According to George, bandmate Siva Kaneswaran is keen to continue his modelling career and already has a major contract in place. Tom Parker will try to make it as a DJ and Jay McGuiness wants to break into TV presenting.

The Wanted formed in 2008 and went on to rack up eight Top Ten hits on the UK’s Official Singles Chart including Glad You Came, All Time Low and Lightning.
