Team GB’s Tom Bosworth proposes to boyfriend at Rio Olympics

By Will Stroude

Team GB’s Tom Bosworth has become the latest Olympian to get engaged in Rio after proposing to his boyfriend on Copacabana beach yesterday (August 15).

The 26-year-old race walker shared a picture of himself popping the question to Harry Dineley, his partner of five years, on Twitter, alongside the caption: “He said YES!!!”

Hi husband-to-be later shared a picture of the engagement ring, along with the words: “Ok then”.

Bosworth, who finished sixth in the 20km race walking event over the weekend, became the first male British track and field athlete to come out publicly when he announced his sexuality on The Victoria Derbyshire show in 2015.

The three-time British record holder is one of almost 50 LGBT athletes representing their country in Rio, and his proposal comes just days after the girlfriend of Brazilian women’s rugby sevens player Isadora Cerullo publicly popped the question at The Games.

Bosworth told Attitude shortly before he jetted off to Rio that his relationship with Harry had changed his life “completely”, and hinted that marriage could soon be on the cards for the pair.

“Him being understanding of what I do – living a boring lifestyle and training 24/7 – is great,” he told us. “I couldn’t be with someone who didn’t get that, and he’s brilliant.  I put most of my success down to him because I’m in a happy and stable relationship.

“He’s changed my life completely.”
