Revealed: Gus Kenworthy’s New Year’s Eve kiss

By Troy Nankervis

Not all of us could be in Times Square to celebrate the New Year with our favourite Olympic freestyle skier Gus Kenworthy, but luckily comedian Kathy Griffin was there to step up to the plate.

The 24-year-old gave Griffin a quick peck on the lips during his appearance on the CNN live broadcast ahead of the midnight countdown, where he also quelled months of speculation by revealing his midnight kiss would be boyfriend Matthew Wilkas, reports Gay Star News.

Joining the athlete with Griffin for the interview was Anderson Cooper, who politely declined any on-air shenanigans with the Olympian, saying he would give him a kiss on the cheek during the commercial break.

Later in the evening, Kenworthy uploaded a photo with Wilkas to Instagram at 12.01am, evidently starting off 2016 in the very best way possible.

Since coming out during an interview with ESPN last year, Kenworthy has received widespread praise for his honesty and openness, and being a positive role model for LGBT youth.

While Gay Star News adds Kenworthy has not named Wilkas as his partner, the Instagram upload is definitely a very public display of their affection.

Wilkas is an actor best known for his film roles in Gayby, You’re Killing Me, and Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.
