One of Britain’s ‘first gay dads’ has revealed he’s expecting triplets with his new partner, who previously dated his daughter.

Barrie Drewitt-Barlow, who announced his separation from his husband of 32 years, Tony Drewitt-Barlow, last year, announced on Sunday (8 March) he and new partner Scott Hutchison, 25, will welcome three new additions to the family via surrogate later this year.

Announcing the news on Instagram, Drewitt-Barlow wrote: “We are PREGNANT!!! WAHOOOOOOOO Scott Robert Hutchison Now, i will be boring you all with the scan photos over the next few months x”.

Drewitt-Barlow confirmed to The Sun that he and Scott are expecting three daughters after using sex selection during the surrogacy process.

“I am overjoyed to share the news that Scott and I are pregnant with triplet girls. We are using a surrogate and she’s fallen pregnant at the first attempt”, he said.

“Our family has too many boys and too much testosterone! So we used sex selection to even things out. We know we are having girls.”

Barrie and Tony Drewitt-Barlow shot to international fame in 1999 when they welcomed twins Saffron and Aspen via a surrogate, later winning the legal right to be named as parents on a birth certificate, in a landmark ruling for LGBTQ parenting.

The Essex couple later up their own transatlantic surrogacy company, welcoming another son Orlando, in 2003 and twins Jasper and Dallas in 2010.

After separating from Tony, Barrie struck up a relationship with Scott, who had previously dated his daughter Saffron, 20.

The family all reside together at Barrie and Tony’s home in Florida, and Barrie has confirmed he has no plans to divorce his husband despite the baby news.

“Tony is excited too, although it does underline that our marriage really is over after all these years, so it is very bittersweet”, he said.

“But we are all going to remain living under the same roof. Tony is Dad, I’m Daddy and while at the moment Scott is stepdad, soon he’s going to be Daddy Two.

“We are happy, we want to co-parent our kids and that’s all that matters. If people don’t get it, that’s their problem, not ours.”
