NBA legend: ‘Major sports events should not be held in states with anti-gay laws’

An NBA legend has argued that major sporting events like the SuperBowl should be withdrawn from cities with religious freedom laws.
Republican Governor Mike Pence sound himself at the centre of an uproar this week when he signed legislation which will allow Indiana business owners to discriminate against customers on religious grounds.
The decision has been met with widespread criticism from public figures including Hillary Clinton and Miley Cyrus and global businesses.
In a new interview, former NBA player Charles Barkley has condemned the 19 states who currently have religious freedom laws in place, and insisted that any form of discrimination should be considered “unacceptable”.
“Discrimination in any form is unacceptable to me,” Barkley told Talking Points Memo. “As long as anti-gay legislation exists in any state, I strongly believe big events such as the Final Four and Super Bowl should not be held in those states’ cities,” he added.
