By Troy Nankervis

Howls of outrage have been heard from all corners of the galaxy as former NFL player Michael Sam has tweeted an absolutely MASSIVE Star Wars spoiler.

Just hours after the premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the openly gay player ruined a major plot point of the new film to his 251,000 Twitter followers, reports Daily Mail.

WARNING: Star Wars spoiler alert!

We at Attitude HQ don’t want to cause a similar octave of anger, and but the tweet in question has since been deleted, with Sam posting “oops” in its place.

And while the Montreal Alouettes player later apologised in a tweet, the damage has clearly been done.

“Sorry about the spoiler alert. Didn’t ruin the entire movie,” he said.

“Damn right oops,” said one follower.

“I don’t believe it. I don’t believe that you are that much of a fucking retard,” said another.

As for the tweet in questions, Sam, revealed perhaps a little too flippantly that Harrison Ford’s reprisal of Han Solo in The Force Awakens was short-lived, with the character dying at the end of the film.

“So the last time I saw a grown man cry during a movie was when #Mufasa died in #lionking. RIP #HanSolo,” he said.

Opening in cinemas across the globe on December 18, Star Wars: The Force Awakens looks to rake in over $250 million in its opening weekend, as the biggest premiere in film history.

The Daily Mail said the previous opening day record was held by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, which took some $91 million at the box office back in 2011.

We still love you Michael!
