Man ‘viciously beaten by gang of men’ outside gay bar in suspected homophobic attack

Police are appealing for information.

A man has been hospitalised after allegedly being beaten by a gang of men outside a gay bar in Melbourne, Australia.

The 36-year-old victim was walking down Smith Street after leaving a nearby bar when he was allegedly assaulted by a group of three men, the Daily Mail reports.

Police say one man made a comment about the victim’s sexuality before he was punched in the face.

The man was taken to hospital with serious facial injuries, and was so badly beaten he has been unable to describe his alleged attackers, who fled the scene.

Images released by police show the victim in hosital with a bloodied face and swollen eye.
