London police officer sacked after making homophobic and racist remarks
Metropolitan Police PC Gus Mirams was overheard using offensive language while on restricted duty after expressing support for far-right content on social media.

A London police officer has been sacked after making homophobic and racist remarks.
Metropolitan Police PC Gus Mirams was dismissed from the force without notice this week after a discplinary panel found his behaviour amounted to gross misconduct.
During a disciplinary hearing, the panel heard how in July 2018, while off duty, Mirams liked and commented on content from a Facebook group link to far-right group ‘Britain First’.
He also made offensive comments in response to pictures and videos, and news articles, some of which were about police officers taking part in Pride events.
A year later, in July 2019, while on restricted duties, Mirams was observing an unrelated misconduct hearing from the public gallery when he made homophobic and racist remarks in front of two members of the public and a security officer.

The panel said that Mirams’ actions “could reasonably be perceived to be abusive, oppressive, victimising or offensive and did not treat certain communities with fairness, respect and impartiality”.
