Lionel Blair has voiced his opposition to equal marriage.

The 82-year-old actor and presenter, perhaps best known, recently, for his stint in the Celebrity Big Brother house, said in an interview published yesterday (August 11) that he thinks marriage “is between a man and a woman”.

“I can’t bear it, I’m afraid,” he said of gay marriage during an interview with the Daily Mail.

“Look, if people want to live together, fine. And I do believe in civil partnerships. But marriage is between a man and a woman.”

“The world has changed”, he added. “What has happened to my beautiful England?”

Blair went on to criticise John Barrowman’s recent on-screen kiss with another man at the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony, saying: “What was all that about for goodness sake?”

Blair also rejected the suggestion that his persona is in any way “camp”.

“Camp? Really? I prefer ‘flamboyant’, or ‘enthusiastic'”, he said. “I’ve always been a bit over-the-top. What about David Walliams, for goodness’ sake? Come on! There’s campness there and we all know that he’s not, well, you know…”
