LGBT community in Dundee urged to consider fostering or adoption

A new website has been set up to allow people to find information on fostering

The LGBT community in Dundee are being urged to consider fostering or adoption.

A new website has been launched by the Scottish city’s only same-sex fostering couple, Laurie Matthew OBE and Sandra McCourt, and allows people to meet the resource team and find out more about the application process.

But the couple – who have been together for 20 years and have fostered since the laws changed – are hoping more LGBT couples consider adoption or fostering rather than having a child via surrogacy.

Laurie told the Evening Telegraph: “There has clearly been a lot of work and thought gone into the website. I hope it does its job.

“Fostering is such a great thing. We just want to see more people do it. I just want to urge LGBT people to come forward.

“The community has got so much to offer.”

Dawn Millar, from the resource team, added: “We are excited to share our new website, which launched on Tuesday, where you can meet the teams, find out more about the application process and keep up to date with what is going on in Dundee to promote fostering and adoption.”
