A gay rights activist was violently beaten up in a homophobic hate crime attack.

Guillaume Melanie is the president of the French gay rights organisation, Urgence Homophobie – which aims to help LGBT+ victims of violence around the world.

According to reports, Melanie was attacked as he was leaving a restaurant with a group of other activists after a man pushed him and his friends violently in the street.

He tweeted: “Homophobic attack outside a restaurant.

“Nose broken. Shocked. Blood everywhere. I’m homosexual and this is 2018.”

Melanie reported told the man to “go easy” but the attacker replied: “You’re just a dirty f****t” and added, “You should all be burned”.

The activist was punched in the face and broke his nose and received bruising to his face.
