star James Sutton has shared his frustration with people asking about his sexuality.

Asked by a fan on Twitter whether he is “gay in real life”, he wrote: “No. And weirdly I’m not an English teacher in Chester either.”

After other Twitter users began to direct criticism at the fan, James tweeted: “Please don’t be mean to the girl in my last RT, she was only asking. My bad for being sarcastic in my response. Bad James.”

He went on to add: “I guess sexuality isn’t really a big deal to me so I sometimes get a bit bored of the whole ‘are you gay in real life’ question.”

“NB. the character I play in Hollyoaks isn’t defined by his sexuality, nor should anyone be. It’s just not, for me, a conversation worth having.”

James, who plays teacher John-Paul in the Channel 4 series, is currently in the middle of a controversial male rape storyline after his character was sexually assaulted by one of his students.
