A high school teacher suspected of killing a man he was dating has died after crashing his car during a police chase.

Roy McClendon-Thompson was suspected of shooting to death James Jones on Monday (April 8) following an argument in Jones’ apartment in Atlanta, according to Dunwoody Police Department.

McClendon-Thompson – a teacher a McNair High School and who is married to another man – allegedly claimed Jones was cheating on him.

Police were reported to the shooting after several 911 calls and when they arrived, they found Jones in a parking deck with gunshot wounds to his chest and despite efforts from paramedics, he died from his injuries.

Sergeant Robert Parsons told Project Q Atlanta: “The school is very upset. He was a very well regarded, respected teacher.

“A lot of confused, shocked and sad people certainly today.”

According to the incident report, McClendon-Thompson discovered his best friend and Jones had sex after meeting on the dating app Jack’d and after the discovery, he broke up with Jones and blocked his calls.

McClendon-Thompson – who reportedly suffered from mental health issues – said that they dated on and off since November and had sex twice and during his police interview, he said he never threatened Jones.

Following the shooting, police found surveillance footage from the apartment complex which showed McClendon-Thompson coming and going around the time of the shooting.

Police arrive at his home and waited for a search warrant to arrive before going in. While waiting, McClendon-Thompson fled in his car.

During a pursuit, he crashed head-on into a commercial vehicle and died.
